Introducing the newest pilot in our

Hand pointing to the right Teagan Zara Ridgway

When was she born?

She was born on Sunday, the 4th of June, 2000 at 4:03pm. She weighed a whopping 12 pounds.

Terry put up some of the first digital photos on yahoo. These are all rated-G pictures.

If you want to know more about the labor, I have written the full story and a rated G abbridged version. Both of these have photos, but the full story contains links to some graphic ones. You can read the story without looking at the pictures. I also have a story about my first homebirth, Erin's birth.

What does the name mean?

Teagan is Welsh meaning beautiful. And she is that, if I do say so myself! Teagan is a variation on Tegan and Teague (a boy's name).

Zara has several meanings. In old French it means light. In Arabic it means brightness of the east.

In William Congreve's tragedy Mourning Bride (1697), the character Zara says:

Heav'n has no rage, like love to hatred turned,
Nor Hell a fury, like a woman scorn'd
In 1981, Princess Anne named her daughter Zara.

Terry chose the name Teagan. I had suggested Tara as the first name, but then he suggested Teagan, a name he'd heard on Dr. Who (a British sci-fi TV show). I liked the name and it sounded similar to Devin and Erin, so we decided it was the one. Choosing the middle name was easy, since Zara sounded a lot like Tara and had an unusual flare to it.
